| ARTIST STATEMENT |
| LATERAL refers to lateral thinking outside the square, left of centre. RHYTHM refers to the pulse or beat of time. Time is a major concept in today’s world; in fact one could say we are slaves to it. Time creates reason a vessel for certainty and conformity. Time is so deeply embedded in today’s society I decided to create an installation exploring the phenomenon we call time. Several works of art create the series Lateral Rhythm’s. Three time follies explore the past, future and present. Rhythm of time reminds us of human fragility and Mother Nature’s great force, strength and resilience. Time portals refer to human endurance, fundamental requirements, persistence of knowledge, safety, security and transportation. Old man time suspended in an elevator is a gentle reminder of human mortality. Throughout the process of creating Lateral Rhythm I had a persisting urge questioning present time? After much consideration I decided to incorporate what is present time, as part of the exhibition, inviting the viewer to also question what present time is. |
